Book Meme

I don’t even know what a "Meme" is, though I’ll guess I’ll look it up in a minute. Joshua Tallent is following some "Book Meme", and I thought I would do the same. Looks like fun. Here are the instructions:

  1. Grab the nearest book.
  2. Open the book to page 123.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
  5. Don’t search around and look for the “coolest” book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you.

And here’s what I got: "If v is definitely assigned at the end of expr, then it is definitely assigned on the control flow transfer to then-stmt and to either else-stmt or to the end point of stmt if there is no else clause." From The C# Programming Language by Hejlsberg, Wiltamuth, and Golde. Who in their right minds wouldn’t have this by them all day long?

Ok here’s what I have- "The notion of perverse spirits who seek to mislead man was current in books like 1 Enoch, Jubilees, Test XII, and the writings of Qumran". David Winston’s commentary on The Wisdom of Solomon, AB.

Hmmm... I wonder if that’s some sort of sign...

Well, I’m sure there are some deceivers our there somewhere. So it definitely applies. Let’s just hope it’s not you or me.

Oh I’m sure its not one of us! I think it’s probably a politician. ;-)

The next time Mom remarks that "Eric must be really busy," I’ll refer her to this post.

Eric Sowell 2005-02-05 05:44:00

Hey! I am busy! But you have to take a break every now and then...

Jim 2005-02-05 09:37:00

Eric, you are in for it now!

Actually, I should be fine. You see, I’ve got a weapon that my mother cannot resist: a child. If my mother is ever mad, all I have to do is either a) get Jonathan around and she forgets about it or b) threaten to take him to a place she’ll never see him. And now that I’m about to have my second child, I’ll have even more to use for my advantage. He who has the grandchildren has the power.

Jim 2005-02-05 11:03:00

Oh now that- "He who has the grandchildren has the power." is the Quote of the Day!

Anonymous 2005-02-06 10:24:00

"He who has the grandchildren has the power"...this would be really sad if it didn’t hold a profound truth for your mother.
